Verily Software Developer (Intern)


Verily's internship is a paid opportunity for students in a cooperative education program who are interested in working at the intersection of technology, data science and healthcare.

Verily Canada operates from Google offices in Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto, and is home to many full-stack software projects. Notable potential project areas relevant to this internship include:

- Terra - a scalable, secure research platform, jointly developed by the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Microsoft, and Verily to help biomedical researchers accelerate scientific discoveries.

- Precision Health Platform - a modular, composable, and interoperable platform for storage and processing of precision health data across Verily products.

The Verily Canada summer internship program runs from start of May 2023 to end of August 2023 (Flexible on exact dates but looking for a 14 - 16 week commitment)

  • Work closely with the development team to design, develop, and deliver new software features across the Verily tech stack.
  • Come up with ideas to technical design problems, compare options, and propose solutions.
  • Develop using industry-standard tools including GitHub, Google Cloud, Golang, React, Docker, and Terraform to name a few.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in university working towards an Undergrad or Graduate degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Authorization to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or demonstrated experience (i.e. personal projects, volunteer projects, etc) in software development.
  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C#, Objective-C, Go, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.
  • Education or previous exposure to healthcare or life sciences is a nice-to-have.

  • Relocation reimbursement to either WAT or TOR will be determined on a case by case basis. Additionally, hybrid / remote work options will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
